► December 23–25, 2020 – “Post-Pandemic Media in a Virtualizing World” – Talk Series and “Covideo” Short Film Screenings

This three-day series of talks focused on the evolving relationship between media and the COVID-19 pandemic. Topics included the acceleration of digitalization, social media, journalism, cinema, and music. The event brought together distinguished professionals from the media industries and academia.

As part of the Covideo Short Film Screenings, student-produced short films exploring pandemic-related themes were showcased on YouTube. These works were created within the framework of the RTC 311 Film Practicum, RTC 312 Directing of Photography, and RTC 371 Short Film Production courses offered in the Radio, Television, and Cinema curriculum at Yeditepe University.

►7-9 APRIL 2019, [Workshop], "VANCOUVER FILM SCHOOL: 2-DAY FILMMAKING EVENT"

In collaboration with Vancouver Film School, this two-day filmmaking workshop featured instructors Jennifer Clement, Michael Baser, and Robert Woolsey. The sessions focused on performance for the camera and screenwriting. On the second day, students produced short films based on topics assigned by the instructors.

Formerly titled Current Issues in Media, RTC 482 Media Seminars is a seminar course in which experts, academics, and/or professionals from the media sector come together with students to share their experiences and respond to students’ questions regarding prominent current topics in the field of media.

Introduced into our curriculum in 2015, this course has been held during the Spring semesters. The topics and guest speakers of the seminars are determined each week in collaboration with a faculty member from the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema and the participating students.

Festival Selections and Awards

“Zoochosis” (2026)

Hira Nur Kaboğlu

Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Defne Özonur

Produced by Hira Nur Kaboğlu as a graduation project under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Defne Özonur, the short film Zoochosis has received notable recognition on both national and international festival circuits.

The film was named a finalist in the Experimental Film category at Işık University’s Kıyıdan Perdeye Film Festival. It was also selected for Filmmaker Sessions Volume 7 and the Official Selection of the Cinestesia Short Film Festival.
 

101: Just Another Existential Sci-Fi Short (2026)

Produced by our recent graduate Yusuf Tağ as a graduation project under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Özge Erbek Kara, 101: Just Another Existential Sci-Fi Short has achieved significant recognition at national and international film festivals. The short film features Şevin Ecem Kırmızıtoprak, a student in Yeditepe University’s Department of Theatre, in the leading role.

“Last Call” (2026)

Defne Akı

Last Call, a film by our student Defne Akı highlighting the urgency of the climate crisis, was selected for the official programme of the UK-based First-Time Filmmaker Sessions Volume 9 and qualified for screening at the festival.
 

“Kirkit” (2026)

Mert Solak

Supervisor: Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif Karakoç Keskin

Produced by our student Mert Solak as a graduation project under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif Karakoç Keskin, the documentary Kirkit received the Special Jury Prize at the Hacı Bayram Veli University Graduation Film Festival.
 

“Kuru Asmalar”(2025)

Muammer Savaş Ükten

Supervisor: Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif Karakoç Keskin

Produced by our graduate Muammer Savaş Ükten as a departmental graduation project under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif Karakoç Keskin, the documentary Kuru Asmalar addresses the environmental problems affecting the Çan district of Çanakkale.

The documentary was named a finalist at the Indigenous Culture Short Film Festival (InCuFF) – 1st International Indigenous Culture Film Festival. It was also selected for the “Cry of Nature” category, dedicated to environmental and climate crises, at the 5th Aizanoi Film Festival.
 

“Tavşan İmparatorluğu” (2025)

Seyfettin Tokmak

Written and directed by Lecturer Seyfettin Tokmak, a 2005 graduate of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema and a valued member of our academic staff, Tavşan İmparatorluğu received the Best Film Award in the National Feature Film Competition at the International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.

The film also received five further awards:

• Best Supporting Actor

• Film-Yön Best Director Award

• Sungu Çapan Film Critics’ Special Jury Prize for Best National Film
   

“İki Mavi” (2024)

Mahur Uslu

Directed by Mahur Uslu, a first-year student in the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, and produced in collaboration with the İAAL Cinema Club at İstek Acıbadem Anatolian High School, the short film İki Mavi received an Honorable Mention at the 20th Akbank Short Film Festival.

Filmmakers: Orkun Doğanay Kömürgöz and Halit Tüfek

Produced under the supervision of Lecturer Erkan Ünalan, Yapabilirim received Second Prize at the 3rd Short Film Competition jointly organised by the Green Action Group and the Limasol Social Responsibility Institution, an affiliate of Limasol Turkish Cooperative Bank. The competition focused on environmental problems and the development of sustainable solutions.

As the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, we bring our students together with experts, academics and/or experts from the sector within the scope of seminars, workshops and workshop activities, as well as feature film and documentary screenings, bringing our students together with directors, producers, actors and important names from the project team. In this context, we have hosted the screening of "Arada" directed by Mu Tunç, the feature film "Taksim Holdem" produced and directed by Jozef Amado and Michael Önder, the feature film "Son Çıkış" directed by Ramin Matin and produced by Emine Yıldırım, and the documentary "Eski Evler ve Karayemişler" directed by Engin Yıldız.

► WORLD RADIO DAY EVENT ON FEBRUARY 13

On 13 February 2019, for World Radio Day, we produced a radio program of approximately thirty minutes as part of an event that included participation from a limited number of universities in Turkey. The project was coordinated by Department Chair Dr. Özge Erbek Kara and Academic Specialist Gökmen Kaya. 

Our guest speaker was Prof. Dr. Meltem Erinçmen Kânoğlu. The program discussed radio as an intimate medium, tracing its emergence, development, and reflections in Turkey. At the conclusion of the broadcast, radio plays produced by our students within their courses were also featured.

Student Films Screenings

Organized by the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema since 2022, the Student Films Screenings presents documentary and feature films produced by students from different departments throughout the academic year. The screenings provides students with an opportunity to present their creative work to audiences, share their productions, and receive feedback within an academic setting.
