The Department of Journalism within the Faculty of Communication at Yeditepe University was established in 1996, the year our university was founded.

The official language of education in the Department of Journalism is English. Journalism graduates can work as reporters, photojournalists, page designers, editors, content creators, copywriters in various media sectors such as newspapers, magazines, television, news websites, advertising, public relations, and they can also work in administrative positions such as news directors and editor-in-chiefs. Our students can also follow an academic career by attending postgraduate studies.

In the first year, students mainly take introductory courses in journalism and communication as well as general culture courses. The courses that introduce news writing, journalism and the digital world also support students to have an idea about the areas they aim to specialize in the following years. The second year includes courses where our students receive field-specific theoretical and practical training. From the third year onward, in addition to theoretical and practical courses on traditional and digital media, students can also enroll in elective courses in line with their interests. In the fourth year, the theoretical and practical courses support specialization and provide professional competence. There is a compulsory internship course that our students must complete in the 6th semester of their education. This course is carried out over 42 working days, spread over three days a week. Students in our department can find internship places by themselves if they wish. The department provides support to our students who have difficulties in finding an internship place in line with the internship requirements of the institutions.

The faculty, which has bilateral agreements with many higher education institutions abroad, attaches great importance to student mobility. Accordingly, the Department of Journalism offers Erasmus and other exchange programs to receive many students from universities around the world and to send students to these universities. After completing two semesters, journalism students can apply for either one semester or a full year at the following universities:

Furthermore, according to the requests of our students, agreements are also possible with different universities.

From the beginning of the prep year, our students take part in our publications under the roof of Yeditepe News Agency, which works with a multi-dimensional agency model, and have the chance to practice with a master-apprentice model. Launched in 2000, Yeditepe Postası and Gazete Yeditepe are the pioneering publications of our department. In addition, our students have the opportunity to experience new media activities on our koridor.yeditepe.edu.tr news website, Koridor Youtube and podcast channels. In addition to these, our department also carries out various collaborative projects with different departments. With documentaries such as Faili Meşhur: Üç Suikast Üç Gazeteci and the ongoing documentaries such as Bab-ı Ali’den İkitelli’ye Gazetecilik, our students are introduced to the motivating aspect of research and working with different disciplines in addition to journalism activities.

Our students can take foreign language courses such as Spanish, German, Chinese and Russian as elective courses if they wish.

Our students have the opportunity to double major or minor in contracted departments if they fulfill the necessary criteria.

In addition to the opportunities of double major and minor, students who successfully complete the courses selected from the departments and courses determined within the framework of the concentration program are entitled to receive a certificate subject to the program they have chosen. The information about the concentration program our students have completed is included in the diploma attachment. The departments that are eligible to take courses as part of the concentration program are: Economics, Business Administration, Electronic Commerce and Management, Graphic Design, Anthropology, Turkish Language and Literature, Sociology, Political Science and International Relations, and Culture and Arts Management.

Our students have the opportunity to benefit from fully and partially (50%) scholarships based on their success in the university entrance exam. Scholarships are available for the regular academic program duration without any interruption. Three types of transfer are possible at our university: intra-institutional, inter-institutional, according to GPA and according to Central Placement Score.
